Wykoff, MN High Radon Levels Mitigated

In Wykoff, MN, a homeowner recently came upon an article that went over radon and how it can affect your health. Concerned that their family was unknowingly breathing in the toxic gas, the homeowner went to their local hardware store to purchase a radon testing kit. After a couple of days, the test results were above 4pCi/L, and the homeowner quickly took action by contacting us and scheduling their FREE estimate.

In less than a week, our Design Specialist, Brad W., arrived at the home for the inspection. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the soil beneath the home and enters through cracks in the foundation, windows, and more. Because it is a natural process, a radon mitigation system is essential in keeping the radon levels in the home low. With radon being the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US and claiming 21,000 lives annually, homeowners need to take action when radon is at dangerous levels. During the inspection, Brad took a close look at the layout of the home and worked closely with the homeowner on the best placement of our radon mitigation system. He recommended installing our fan on the exterior of the home and connecting it to the concrete flooring through a PVC pipe. Confident in our team, the homeowner decided to move forward with the project.

In about a month, our Foreman, Dakota M., and his crew arrived at the home for the installation. They began by drilling a small hole into the concrete floor. Then, a PVC pipe is inserted and connected to the fan installed at the exterior of the home. Once these are connected properly, another PVC pipe is installed from the fan above the roofline. This is designed this way so that our system could suction out the radon gas and expel it above the roofline before it can enter the home. Once our system was successfully installed, they cleaned up their equipment and left the home.

Leaky Basement Wall Waterproofed in Wykoff, MN

A homeowner in Wykoff, MN, noticed multiple signs of water damage in his basement, such as standing water, wood rot, mold, and mildew. Concerned that it would worsen and lead to permanent damage to his home, the homeowner decided to ask friends and family if they knew a good waterproofing company. The homeowner was recommended American Waterworks, and he decided to contact us to schedule his FREE estimate.

In a couple of weeks, our Design Specialist, Dustin L., arrived at the home to conduct a thorough inspection of the basement. He explained to the homeowner that one of the common causes of a damp basement is a failed footing drain. When this fails, it causes the soil surrounding the foundation to become saturated with water. Water then enters through cracks in the walls, between the footing and the wall, and under the footing. To fix this issue, Dustin recommended our WaterGuard, a perimeter drain system designed not to clog, TripleSafe sump pump system, which comes with 3 levels of protection, IceGuard, our anti-freeze discharge line to eject water away from the foundation, and CleanSpace, our vapor wall barrier which would collect water from the walls and direct it to the WaterGuard. After reviewing Dustin's proposal the homeowner happily agreed to his plans and decided to move forward with the project.

In about two months, our Foreman, Arturo M., and his crew arrived at the home for the installation. They began by installing 112ft of CleanSpace on the walls using drilled-in fasteners to ensure it stays in place. Then, a sump pump pit is excavated where the liner and pump would be placed. The crew then installs 112ft of our perimeter drain system, WaterGuard. Once this has been installed, the crew finishes installing the sump pump and ensures both the pump and drain system are connected. Lastly, the crew installs 2 IceGuards. Once they were done with the installations, they restored the floor by pouring concrete. After this, the crew cleaned up their equipment and left the home.
