Why Concrete Sinks and How We Can Repair It

Overview

When concrete sinks or cracks, it can cause issues such as pooling water, uneven surfaces and potentially dangerous tripping hazards. Bad concrete also hurts curb appeal, reducing the value of a home. The good news is that concrete problems can typically be fixed without having to replace the old slabs with new ones, which is also the most cost-effective option.

Concrete is strong but it’s not indestructible. Most concrete problems are caused by poor soil. Soil can soften due to excessive moisture, shrink due to drought, or become unstable if it was not properly compacted when it was poured. These situations cause voids to form, which in turn allows the heavy concrete above to sink and become uneven. As concrete slabs sink, they can crack and break, creating jagged, raised edges that are not only an eyesore but are also potentially dangerous.

American Waterworks Concrete Solutions:

The four concrete repair solutions that we offer at American Waterworks are PolyLevel, NexusPro, ResurfacePro and SealantPro. PolyLevel is a durable, expanding foam that gets injected beneath the concrete to fill the gaps that are caused by soil destruction, and to lift a concrete surface. The foam cures within 15 minutes, so you can use your concrete the same day (See figure #1). NexusPro is a sealant for cracks or joints made to provide long-term flexibility and to stick through severe weather conditions. It prevents any further bubbling or foaming in the cracks (See figure #2). ResurfacePro is a cement application system that covers broken concrete, giving off a brand-new look and repairing the purpose of your concrete at the same time (See figure #3). Lastly, SealantPro is a solution that links with concrete and protects it from dirt, water and other earth contaminants. It dries quickly and is entirely cured within six hours (See figure #4).
