Eau Claire, WI High Radon Levels Mitigated
Challenge
In Eau Claire, WI, a homeowner recently came upon a blog post that went over radon gas. The homeowner learned that radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of soil beneath the home. When inhaled over a long period of time, it increases the risk of lung cancer. Concerned that their family was unknowingly breathing in the toxic gas, the homeowner decided to purchase a radon testing kit. After a couple of days, the test results were above 4pCi/L, which is the recommended action level by the EPA. The homeowner quickly took action and contacted us to schedule their FREE estimate.
Solution
In less than a week, our Design Specialist, Dave S., arrived at the home for the inspection. During the inspection, Dave took a close look at the layout of the home, working closely with the homeowner on the best placement of our radon mitigation system. He recommended having the fan installed on the exterior of the home and having it connect to the concrete floor in the basement. This is designed this way so that our system could suction out the radon-rich gas and expel it above the roofline before it can enter the home. After reviewing the proposal, the homeowner decided to move forward with the project.
In about a month, our Foreman, Gus R., and his crew arrived at the home for the installation. The crew began by drilling into the concrete floor and attaching the piping. Then, it is connected to the exterior of the home to create an extraction point. From there, the fan is installed, and additional piping is added.
