Radon Concerns Addressed in Decorah, IA
Challenge
A homeowner from Decorah, IA, had recently become concerned with radon gas levels after she heard of a friend having high radon levels in her Iowa home. She didn't know much about radon, but knew enough to know that it's presence was something to be concerned about. After a neighbors home tested high, she decided she needed to find a radon mitigation company to test her home. While searching for radon mitigation system photos, she found our website, and was impressed with the work we had done in her area, so she decided to book her FREE estimate, and a few days later, our Design Specialist, Romeo Viali, was headed out to her home to test for radon gas.
Solution
When Romeo arrived, he got right to work assessing the home. Part of a radon appointment entails leaving behind a radon test kit, used to monitor radon levels in the home. Romeo informed the homeowner that she was right to have her home tested, especially if her neighbors homes tested high. Romeo went on to explain that radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that derives from the breakdown of soil surrounding your home. This toxic gas enters your home through porous holes and tiny cracks in your foundation. It's odorless, colorless, and tasteless, making it completely undetectable without proper testing. Romeo continued, saying that prolonged exposure to high levels of radon gas can impact the health of your household, as radon gas is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Worried about what this could mean for her home, the homeowner asked Romeo what could be done. Romeo informed her that they would need to wait to see what the radon levels in the home were, stating that anything above 4 picocurie per liter (pCi/L) would be cause for concern, per the EPA. He went on to explain that, if levels returned higher than normal, he would recommend the installation of one of our radon gas mitigation systems. This system works to lower the concentration of radon gas in your interior air to minimal levels recommended by the EPA by sucking radon rich air from beneath your foundation, and expelling it outward and away from the home.
A few weeks later, the homeowner had gotten confirmation that the radon levels in her home were unsafe, leading her to call Romeo and discuss the installation of the mitigation system. Romeo worked to get her a date for the project, and several weeks later the house adorned a new mitigation system, creating only the healthiest air within the residence.
