High Levels of Radon Detected in Norwood Young America, MN

Naomi R. in Norwood Young America, MN learned that radon kills over 20,000 people each year and she realized that they had not had their home tested yet. Naomi had used us in the past to repair her foundation and install an egress window. She had a pleasant experience with us, so she contacted us again to test her home for radon. We had one of our Design Specialists, Jeremy Radtke, go to her home to set up the radon test and give her a free estimate. The results showed that her home did in fact have high levels of radon, so Jeremy recommended that they have our radon mitigation system installed as soon as possible. Naomi was eager to have the system installed to protect their health and reduce their chances of contracting lung cancer.

Our production team installed the radon mitigation system by inserting a PVC pipe through her sump pump, which creates a suction point for the gas. The PVC pipe runs up the house and through the roof. There is a fan installed at the top of the PVC pipe to ensure that the gas is pushed out and away from the home. After each installation, we do a second radon test to ensure that the radon mitigation system is working properly and expelling the radon from the home. The second test reported that Naomi’s home now had significantly lower levels of radon. She is glad that her home is now protected from this harmful, radioactive gas, and that she took action to protect her and her family’s health.

The weight of the home is then transferred through the helical piers to deep, stable soils. Lastly, they carefully replaced the soil around the home. Nicole was growing concerned because the sinking concrete had created several tripping hazards and she was afraid that, if left unchecked, the gaps would only worsen and create bigger problems down the road. Nicole cashed in on her FREE estimate with us and a Design Specialist from our Radon and Concrete division went out to the property to do an inspection. Soon after the approval, the solution was sent to our Foreman, Sam, and his crew. Sam and his crew arrived at the home and began repairs immediately. First, they focused on the sunken slab in the middle of the sidewalk. To lift the sidewalk, the crew used the PolyLevel. A homeowner in Cologne, MN, discovered their basement had wet spots scattered throughout. Concerned for the upcoming spring, the homeowner wanted to find a lasting solution. Seeing the excellent work we have completed in their area, the homeowner decided to work with us, American Waterworks. After signing for their FREE estimate, the homeowner prepared for the arrival of Design Specialist, Eric. After Eric arrived, he completed a thorough inspection of the basement. The homeowners agreed, but they asked if only the required sections of their basement be waterproofed. Eric sent the plans to the assigned crew and the waterproofing installation began. Our Foreman, Arturo, and his crew arrived and began by installing the WaterGuard. The WaterGuard system is a below-floor drain that rests in a bed of drainage stone on top of the foundation footing. The crew installs the WaterGuard by digging channels around the perimeter of the basement floor. Once the channels are dug, the crew places the WaterGuard in those channels. Next, the crew will cover the WaterGuard with dirt and concrete so the floor will even out again. Odor Concerns in Waconia, MN

A homeowner in Waconia, MN, noticed a musty stench around their home. Determined to find the source of the stench, the homeowner began to investigate the home to find the source. After doing some investigation, the homeowner discovered the smell was coming from the basement. The homeowner had a gut feeling that there could be an issue in their basement, so they took steps to find a solution. After looking into several companies, the homeowner decided to work with the highly-rated American Waterworks. The homeowner then visited our website and signed up for their FREE estimate. Once the appointment details were set in stone, we sent one of our Design Specialist, Eric, to the home. After Eric completed his detailed inspection, he informed the homeowners that the cause of the smell was the basement. Eric proposed a variety of solutions, and the homeowners agreed with one of the versions. The agreed-upon solution was sent to the assigned crew and the project plans progressed.

Our crew arrived at the home and began their work. The crew started by installing the WaterGuard around the perimeter of the northern section of the basement. The WaterGuard is a below-floor drain that resets in a bed of drainage stone on top of the foundation footing. The crew digs channels in the required sections to place the WaterGuard. In addition to the WaterGuard, a feedline was installed across the basement floor. The channels are then covered with rocks and cement to even out the floors to give a complete, smooth look. Since the new water system was in place, the crew could then install the SuperSump Plus. Unlike other sump pumps, the SuperSump Plus is engineered to help keep basements dry and healthy for long periods and during heavy water intrusion. The crew then shifted their focus to installing the CleanSpace on the entire north wall and sections of the east and west wall. CleanSpace is a waterproof plastic vapor barrier that prevents leaks and mold growth. On certain walls, CleanSpace is mechanically attached by plastic drilled-in fasteners. Finally, the crew applied SprayFoam near the top of all the basement walls. After all the basement waterproofing was complete, the crew then shifted their focus to the crawl space. The crew began by clearing all the debris from the crawlspace. Once the debris was cleared, the crew could lay the Drainage Matting on the crawl space floor. Finally, the crew installed CleanSpace on all the walls and floors in the crawlspace.

Our Foreman, Brandon, and his crew arrived at the home and began by clearing all the debris from the crawl space. After the crawl space was cleared, the crew could go ahead and lay the Drainage Matting. The raised dimples of Drainage Matting give the water flooding into your crawl space a channel underneath your crawl space liner. The crew installs the Drainage Matting by laying it on the crawl space floor. Once the Draining Matting is laid, the crew then installed CleanSpace on the crawl space floor and walls. CleanSpace is a 100% waterproof plastic vapor barrier that protects from mold growth and water intrusion. The crew mechanically attaches CleanSpace to the basement walls with plastic drilled-in fasteners. Next, the crew injects SprayFoam into the joist pockets of the crawl space.
