Failing Garage Gets Stabilized in Golden Valley, MN

Challenge

A homeowner from Golden Valley, MN, was out in his garage one day when he noticed a concerning stair step cracking running down the far garage wall. The homeowner was wanting to begin the process for selling his home, and knew the issue needed to be fixed before the home could be put on the market. He took to the internet to looking for foundation repair specialists in the area, and he quickly came across American Waterworks. Impressed by similar jobs we had done in the past, he decided to set up his FREE estimate.

Several weeks later our Design Specialist, Mac, headed out to the home to assess the situation. After an in-depth estimate appointment, Mac was ready to make his recommendations.

Solution

Mac began by explaining to the homeowner that foundations of homes and garages are built to withstand pressure from the top, not the side. When the pressure being put on a wall from the side exceeds what it can withstand, it's not uncommon for homeowners to see evidence of cracking or bowing. He went on to say that he was recommending our GeoLock wall anchors. He explained that these anchors combat side pressure by anchoring the problem wall to the hard-packed undisturbed soil beyond the foundation. Threaded rods extend through the wall to each anchor, meaning wall anchors can even be used to straighten failing walls in many cases. The homeowner was thrilled to know a fix was possible!

Several weeks later our Foreman, Matt Z, headed out to the home to complete the installation. Once the project was over, Matt and his team had installed 5 of our GeoLock anchors in the garage of the home. Now that the wall is stabilized, our customer is putting the finishing touches on a structurally sound home before putting it on the market!
