Sagging Floor Corrected in Owatonna, MN
Challenge
In Owatonna, MN, a homeowner had begun noticing something odd on the main floor of his home. The room over his basement seemed bouncy, and uneven. The homeowner decided to investigate his support posts in his basement. After discovering that some of his wood beams had begun failing, he worried that the structural integrity of his home might be in question. He searched for a foundation repair company near Owatonna, MN, and through recommendations from friends and family, he decided to call American Waterworks and book his FREE foundation repair estimate. Several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Eric H, was scheduled to head out to the home to see the issue for himself.
Solution
When Eric arrived, he completed an in-depth inspection of the space, taking a variety of measurements, paying close attention to the failing beams, and discussing concerns with the homeowner. When his inspection was complete, he was ready to make his recommendation. Eric began by confirming the homeowners theory, that the weakening support beams in the basement were contributing to the failing floor in the room above. Eric stressed that while the issue was serious, American Waterworks could provide a remedy. Eric wanted to use our SmartJack support system. Eric went on to say that while you would normally use smart jacks for crawl space issues, they are a versatile product that could fix the issue. Our SmartJack system provides a solid support for sagging and undersized beams, restoring stability and straightness to sagging floor joists. They are also specially designed to be adjust over time to provide additional straightening and leveling if necessary. The homeowner was impressed with Eric comprehensive estimate, and decided to move forward with scheduling the project.
A month or so later, our Foreman, Lane S, and his team were ready to get to work. They began the installation by verifying the measurements left by Eric. Then, they dug holes for the SmartJack to be placed in, and secured to the ground, and measured the distance between supplemental support beams and the floor of the basement to ensure accuracy. As they installed the product, they made sure to test the floor above, looking for any evidence of continued unevenness. When the smart jacks had been properly placed, they covered the base in a layer of cement to prevent movement. When the project had been completed, Lane and his team had installed 6 of our SmartJacks around the basement, putting an end to uneven floors above and, more importantly, our customers concerns for his largest investment!
