He learned that radon is a by-product of uranium, which can be found in soil. As soil decays, it releases radon gas, which creates a high toxicity level in the air. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, second only to cigarette smoking. After learning this information, the homeowner went to his local convenience store to purchase a radon test kit. They would drill a hole at the footing and place a PVC pipe, which would then connect the system that is installed outside of the home. This design tackles the radon-rich air by spewing it outside before it can reach the home. Once the crew was done with the installation, they cleaned up their equipment and left the home.
