Weak Foundation Repaired in Brainerd, MN

In Brainerd, MN, a homeowner was beginning to notice the signs of a bad foundation. Over the years the homeowner had noted several concerning cracks beginning to form on the wall. As the years passed the cracks grew larger, and new cracks began to emerge. The homeowner was concerned that the symptoms of foundation issues would continue to worsen and compromise safety if she let the issue continue. She took to the internet and searched 'foundation repair mn' and quickly found American Waterworks. She looked through our reviews and was impressed with the sentiments people had left about our business, so she decided to sign up for her FREE estimate, and a few weeks later Nicola G, one of our Design Specialists in the area, was scheduled to stop at the home to see what could be done for the failing wall. When Nicola arrived she got right to work inspecting the basement. When she was finished she sat down with the homeowner to go over her findings. Nicola began by informing the homeowner that foundation walls are designed to withstand loads from above, but not from the side. When the pressure on the side of the wall becomes too much for it to withstand it is not uncommon for homeowners to see cracking, bowing, tilting, or shearing at the base of the wall. She went on to say that while the situation was serious, American Waterworks had the solution to restore the home. Nicola recommended our GeoLock earth anchor system. Our geo lock anchors use wall platers and threaded rods to anchor the failing wall to the hard-packed undisturbed soil beyond the foundation, permanently stabilizing basement walls, and offering the best opportunity to straighten the walls without the cost and disruption of foundation replacement. The homeowner liked Nicola's plan so much she decided to schedule her project on the spot.

A month or so later, our Foreman, Jesus C, was out at the home installing the anchors. When he finished the job, he had installed 20 GeoLock anchors throughout the basement, successfully putting our customers concerns for her foundation failure in the past!

`Sinking Concrete Gets a Lift in Brainerd, MN

In Brainerd, Minnesota a homeowner was watching his concrete walkway slowly pull away from his home. Worried that the concrete could sink further, and cause even more damage, he began to look into Minnesota concrete lifting. Through the recommendation of a friend, he called American Waterworks and booked his FREE estimate. Several weeks later, our Design Specialist, Greg G, was headed to the home to evaluate the issue.

When Greg arrived he began his inspection, paying close attention to areas of concern the homeowner had pointed out. When he concluded, he and the homeowner sat down to discuss his findings. To begin, Greg informed the homeowner that concrete can shift and sink for a variety of reasons such as excess water causing soil washout, extreme heat drying the soil out, or poor soil compaction when the home was built and concrete was laid. He went on to say that American Waterworks could address the concrete sink with our PolyLevel injection. PolyLevel is a polyurethane foam that expands when it's injected beneath sunken concrete patios, sidewalks, driveways, and more. As the foam expands it pushes the concrete above back into place, restoring the look and value of your home without the mess and hassle of full replacement. Greg went on to say that, as added protection, he was recommending our NexusPro. This silicone-based sealant gets applied to the cracks and joints in the concrete once the lift is completed. It's specially designed to provide long-lasting flexibility and to stand up against harsh weather conditions. This means a single application of nexus pro sealant can protect is from the damage caused by soil and compaction and washout. The homeowner was thrilled to know he did not need to replace the concrete around his home, and signed up for the project on the spot.

About a month later, our Foreman, Bryce P, and his Co-Foreman were at the property lifting the problem slabs. When they had finished, our customer was pleased to know he no longer had to worry about uneven concrete dragging down home value!

High Levels of Radon Mitigated in Champlin, MN

Jeffrey H. in Champlin, MN discovered the adverse effects that radon gas has on people's health and he became concerned because his home had not yet been tested. He started looking for a company to test his home, and he came across American Waterworks’ website. He was glad to see that along with concrete repair, basement waterproofing and foundation repair, we also offer radon testing and mitigation. He gave us a call and we sent one of our Design Specialists, Jeremy Radtke, to his home to set up the test. The results showed that Jeffrey did in fact have unsafe levels of radon in his home. Jeremy explained the risks of not having a radon mitigation system installed and he walked Jeffrey through the installation process. Jeffrey wanted to have the system installed as soon as possible, so they scheduled the project.

Our radon mitigation specialists drilled a hole through the concrete under the stairs in the basement to create a suction point for the gas. Then, a PVC pipe is inserted which goes up through the house and exits the home through the roof. A fan is installed at the top of the PVC pipe to ensure that the radon gas is being pushed away from the home. The post mitigation test results showed that his home was now a much safer environment. The installation took only one day to complete, and Jeffrey is glad he took action to protect his and his family’s health.
