Jacqueline M. in Minneapolis, MN had a bowing foundation wall in her basement. She was concerned about the pressure it was putting on her foundation, so she contacted American Waterworks to receive a FREE estimate. One of our Design Specialists, Shane Nephew, went to her home to inspect the wall and design a solution. After listening to her concerns and needs, he developed a plan to permanently restore her wall using PowerBraces. She was pleased with his proposal, so she decided to move forward with repairing her foundation.

Our Foreman, Juan Pena, and his crew installed 6 PowerBraces along the bowing wall. The PowerBrace is an adjustable beam that stabilizes bowing walls and forces them back into their original position. PowerBraces are sometimes used instead of wall anchors because wall anchors require access to the soil outside and would cause us to cross a property line if that product was installed. The beams are covered with a zinc-coating, so that the beams will not rust or deteriorate over time. Jacqueline was glad that the process was not very disruptive and that they barely take up any space in her basement. She has peace of mind knowing that American Waterworks helped her find a long-term solution for her home.

Josh L. in Minneapolis, MN discovered the adverse effects that radon gas has on people's health and he became concerned because his home had not yet been tested. He started looking for a company to test his home, and he came across American Waterworks at a local home show. He was glad to see that along with concrete repair, basement waterproofing and foundation repair, we also offer radon testing and mitigation. He gave us a call and we sent one of our Design Specialists, Shane Nephew, to his home to set up the test. 48 hours later, Shane returned to read the results. The results showed that Josh did in fact have unsafe levels of radon in his home. Shane explained the risks of not having a radon mitigation system  installed and he walked Josh through the installation process. Josh wanted to have the system installed as soon as possible, so they scheduled the project.

Our radon mitigation specialists drilled a hole through the concrete in the basement to create a suction point for the gas. Then, a PVC pipe is inserted which goes up through the house and exits the home through the roof. A fan is installed at the top of the PVC pipe to ensure that the radon gas is being pushed away from the home. The installation took only one day to complete, and Josh is glad he took action to protect his and his family’s health.

Has your home been tested for radon? Don't compromise your health any longer! Contact us here to schedule an appointment.

Minneapolis, MN basement waterproofing

The basement is more than a room to hold your furnace and hot water heater. It is the foundation of your house. Leaks and moisture in the basement can cause damage to the wood supporting the house as well as provide a breeding ground for mold and mildew. American Waterworks has been helping residents of Minneapolis, MN by providing exceptional basement waterproofing, foundation repair, concrete leveling, and crawl space repair for over two decades.

Water is constantly attacking your basement wall, trying to find any crack or hole to flow into your home. It can find its way through the pores and tiny cracks in the concrete, old joints that need to be shored, or utility pipe openings where the seal has broken down over time.

American Waterworks uses the Basement Systems WaterGuard waterproofing system to ensure your basement is leak-free for an affordable price. The WaterGuard system saves you from:

  • Negative-side sealants that can leak after overexposure to water, pushing through the waterproof paints and hydraulic cements applied to the inside of the foundation walls.
  • Interior drain tiles that can clog with mud or other debris or become overrun during a heavy rainstorm.
  • Excavation to install a new drain tile system that involve a backhoe and replacing landscape and sections of driveway.

The WaterGuard system is a drainage system installed between the concrete floor and inner basement wall. It is designed to hug the wall, preventing clogs yet allowing you to check for debris and clean it, if necessary. In addition to WaterGuard, American Waterworks also offers a variety of other basement waterproofing products, including sump pumps, dehumidifiers, wall options, and so much more!

Concrete leveling and lifting using PolyLevel, NexusPro, and SealantPro

Have you noticed dangerous cracks and uneven surfaces forming in your driveway, sidewalk, concrete steps, or patio? Does it look like the concrete is sinking? Having problems with sunken outdoor concrete is not unusual in Minnesota where soil erosion is often the result of the changing seasons and a weak soil base.

You do not have to worry about tilted or sinking sections of sidewalks, concrete steps, or concrete slabs anymore. American Waterworks, an expert in the concrete leveling business for more than 20 years, has you covered. While other contractors may rely on simple, short-term fixes such as slab jacking or grout pumping, we here at American Waterworks use the revolutionary PolyLEVEL™ material to fix unsettled soil for concrete leveling and lifting.

With PolyLEVEL™, we are able to physically lift your concrete slabs and return them to their desired level positions while also leveling the ground underneath. This process prevents continued soil settlement from cracking and disrupting your concrete again in the future.

American Waterworks also offers NexusPro and SealantPro for a seamless driveway.  NexusPro is an incredibly durable and long-lasting solution for cracked concrete repair. NexusPro is resistant to UV rays and harsh weather, and sets in as little as one hour. SealantPro, our driveway sealing formula, is not available in your local home improvement store and protects your concrete against damage for 3-5 times longer! Call today for a free estimate on amazing PolyLevel injections, NexusPro or SealantPro applications.

Foundation repair and crawl space repair in Minneapolis, MN

The Earth and its seasons are ever-changing, shifting the ground beneath us. For the crawl space and foundation under your home, this can spell disaster. Soil composition is rarely taken into account when a house is designed but can wreak havoc for years to come. If the ground is too dry, it cannot support your foundation which can cause it to settle and deteriorate. Conversely, if the ground is too wet, your house’s structure can be lifted and moisture can seep into your crawl space, decaying your home’s wooden supports and flooring from underground.

Summers are especially harsh on your crawl space as hot air mixing with cold creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Updrafts then bring these spores up into your living space, creating an unhealthy environment for your family. Alternately, cold air in the crawl space during the winter months forces your furnace to work harder, reducing its longevity. If you've noticed these forces at work, you may be in need of crawl space or foundation repair.

Damaged or not, American Waterworks is poised to keep your foundation strong and crawl spaces clean. We implement foundation piering using helical piles and push piers to stabilize your house’s footings as well as anchors to align the foundation.  For your crawl space, we use the Clean Space vapor barrier system to cover the sub-floor area of the crawl space, keeping moisture out and warmth in.  These simple foundation repairs and crawl space encapsulation techniques can stop further damage to your home and provide a safer environment for your family.

If you have noticed leaks in your basement, cracks in your foundation, moisture in your crawl space, or uneven concrete slabs, American Waterworks has the solution you need. Schedule a free estimate with us today in Minneapolis, MN!

I have an unreachable crawlspace underneath a brick sunporch. Only visible through a 1-2 foot opening from the floor joist. While undergoing basement remodeling I removed the basement lath&plaster ceiling and exposed the floor joist that spans from the crawl space to the basement space. During this processed I uncovered how dank & musty that area is. I would like to understand what options I might have to better ventilate this space. Since I was planning to insulate the basement exterior walls with closed cell spray foam anyway, my thought was to block the airflow from the floor joist crawl space to the rest of the basement as seen in basement picture 1&2. However, I was not sure if that would make the underlying problem worse or not. One thought I had was to ventilate fresh exterior air through an abandoned galvonized water spigot that already goes through the exterior wall. Would this help improve the space? What other options might I have? Please see attached pictures.
