Erin and Tyrel, owners of a building space in Hazen, ND, were looking to both restore and refresh the basement space in order to use it as storage and potential office spaces. However, the basement was full of water damage, musty smells, and moisture intrusion, and they needed help. The pair decided to claim their FREE inspection. Our Design Specialist, Ian, headed out to the property. Once he completed his walkthrough, he made recommendations as to how American Waterworks could help. Our customer agreed with the recommendations, and work began shortly after.
Foreman Jesus and his crew prepped the walls and installed our full perimeter system. Then, they added our WaterGuard system. This particular system is typically used in basements and is the premier choice for basement waterproofing. It is installed below the floor, but rests atop the foundation, keeping it out of the "mud zone", making it harder to clog. It works to trap water and sends it to an appropriate disposal site, which is typically a sump pump. So, our crew Inserted our SuperSump® Premier Pump System into the southeast corner of the space. It is engineered to help keep the basement dry and healthy for extended periods, even during heavy water intrusion. The SuperSump® includes a powerful Zoeller® ⅓ horsepower cast-iron sump pump, capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water per hour at an 8-foot head out of your basement. They then proceeded to use CleanSpace to encapsulate the basement to prevent moisture and mold to affect the rest of the foundation. Finally, our team added an Aprilaire dehumidifier, which creates healthy air and can reduce the number of viable viruses in the air to less than 1% in two days when set to 50% relative humidity. The customers were happy with the results and looking forward to utilizing the space.
Alisha, a homeowner in Stanton, ND, was searching for assistance with her basement issues. Groundwater was leaking through the cement floors and cinder block walls; the water stayed close to the foundation and saturated the area. She thought that our team could help with possible solutions, from sump pumps to sealing the block, so she called for FREE estimate. Our Design Specialist, Richie, traveled to his home to take a look around. Once he completed his walkthrough, he was ready to recommend a plan to transform the basement into a healthy, clean space.
Dylan, our Foreman, headed out to the house with his crew and got to work. First, they created a full-perimeter WaterGuard System with a lateral feed line where issues were present. Our WaterGuard is a patented below-floor drain that rests in a drainage bed on top of the foundation footing. It is our most commonly used drain system because of its resistance to water clogs, easy-to-access service ports, and ability to collect leaking water from basement walls. To complete the WaterGuard project, our team covered the open gaps with rock and replaced the concrete. The crew then added a half-wall of our CleanSpace to encapsulate the basement to prevent moisture and mold from affecting the rest of the foundation. Then, our crew inserted our SuperSump® Premier Pump System. To direct water away from the home's foundation so that it would not leak back into the basement, the team added a 30-foot discharge line from the West end of the basement. Furthermore, American Waterworks can help prevent wintertime freeze-up of discharge lines. We installed the patented IceGuard® system, an anti-freeze fitting that is installed outside of the home and ejects water away from the foundation if the sump pump discharge lines freeze or become clogged. Once the job was done, our customer was happy to know that her basement had been transformed, and she no longer had to worry about water intrusion!

Our Foreman and his production team started the installation by breaking out the concrete floor perimeter with a jackhammer, forming a trench. In the trench, our team installed our WaterGuard Below-Floor Drain, which prevents water and mud clogs, serves as an underground drain, and collects water seepage from basement walls. To complete the project, our crew filled the open gaps with river rock and pea gravel and applied new concrete over them.
